Tomite

The second seishi whom we come across with in the series, but one of the two that appear in Fushigi Yuugi, Tomite is in charge of the powers of ice. Tomite [ 虛 ] or so named Tan Chamuka is a sixteen year old bounty hunter, who, in his introduction to the story, is hunting Uruki in order to make money for his mother and his village. Mistaken Takiko for "Rimudo's Woman", Tomite kidnaps her in order to lure Uruki out of hiding. It doesn't work and his mother, Boraate, is the one to officially state that Takiko is the Priestess of Genbu. Thus, Tomite becomes the first seishi to actually follow Takiko.

Throughout the series Tomite works extra hard in order to make himself stronger by practicing his archery and training with his powers because he is always in silent competition with Uruki, who seems to be stronger. Also on that note, Tomite's powers seem to have awakened later in life than the others.

Being aquainted with Hikitsu for some years, Tomite became friends with him after his father was killed. His powers didn't awaken until later in life though, during an attack on his village. Hikitsu was trying to save Tomite's mother from being killed, but missed and seemingly attacked her. Tomite, in a fury, unleashed his powers on Hikitsu and accidently froze Hikitsu's sister, Aria, who pushed her brother out of the way. However, with Takiko's encouragement Tomite frees Aria and regains his friendship with Hikitsu.
