Hikitsu

One of the oldest and most mature of the seishi, Chen Emutato or rather, Hikitsu [ 斗 ], is twenty-one years old and wields power over water and memories. Hikitsu is also one of the two Genbu seishi that make an appearance in the original Fushigi Yuugi as guardians of the shinzaho. He is devoted, quiet and extremely powerful.

As a child, he lived in a neighboring village by Tomite and befriended him when he saved Tomite after his father was killed. Even at that time, he was already known as a Genbu seishi and he and his sister, Aria, were abandoned because of his power by the rest of the villagers when they moved to a better climate. As Genbu seishi were usually blamed for anything that went wrong, when Tomite's village was attacked by youma called maw, the villagers started a rumor that Hikitsu had called them there.

While trying to protect Tomite's mother, Hikitsu accidentally seemingly attacked her which caused Tomite to unleash his power toward him. Instead of hitting Hikitsu though, Aria pushed him away and was frozen in his place. Alone now that Tomite believed that he was evil and his sister frozen, Hikitsu remained in the mountains to wait until a time when Tomite would return to melt the ice surrounding Aria; and so he was upon his introduction to the series.
