Why did I even bother to create this site? Because, of course, I love Genbu Kaiden. For as long as I can remember I've been obsessed with Fushigi Yuugi. Really really obsessed. Like the AMV watching, fanfiction reading, buying all merchandise related to the series in even the most remote way even though I had no money, obsessed. However, there were two ~~little~~ problems or would you say...issues (with characters) that I had with this series...

...what was it? Maybe it was that Miaka and Tamahome really annoyed me. I hated the way that they broke up every other episode. It was very tiresome and overdramatic; the angst got old very quickly. In fact, I hated it to such an extent that after Nuriko died the show lost half it's value to me. Good thing Tasuki and Chichiri didn't die either; or I probably wouldn't have even finished the series. Don't get me wrong, when the series started out I loved Miaka and Tamahome. I would just like to repeat that I like Miaka and Tamahome as characters and even remotely as a couple (in later chapters when they get over the drama); I just hated the way that their relationship was portrayed - if that makes any sense.

But really, I loved the idea behind the story; the plot of using the four Chinese beast gods (I like mythology) and I loved the Genbu seishi...who sadly, only appeared in one episode/part, and there were only two of them; Tomite and Hikitsu. I loved the obvious dedication that they had for their miko, even after they had died, and I loved the mystery surrounding the Genbu storyline. So when I was browsing though the internet during accounting class when I was in high school in 2003 and found out about Genbu Kaiden, I almost had a seizure. But I was also a bit skeptical about how the series would live up to my expectations because I am very critical of Watase's work.

However, I am pleased to say that I couldn't have hoped for better and had even underestimated the way that this would turn out. This time it even features a heroine that I absolutely adore, Takiko, who can not only fight and take care of herself, but is smart, unselfish, compassionate and beautiful.

And I have to say, I think the Genbu seishi are way more substantial, stronger, wiser and have more life experience than the other three groups; but that was already proven in the original storyline when the Genbu seishi beat the Suzaku seishi, and the fact that even the Seiryuu seishi were afraid to face Tomite and Hikitsu. Why? That's because the Genbu seishi pwn them all, of course!
